VISION 2001
Update...
By Fr.
Robert J. Duggan, C.S.B.
Our vision is
to see our parish spiritually renewed, socially renovated, and
physically restored.
The spiritual part is
being handled by the Pastoral Team and the Parish Pastoral
Council. The social renovation is being handled by the
Christian Service Committee, the Jeremiah Project Core Team, and the
Bagley Housing Association. The physical restoration is being
handled by all the fund raising efforts of the parish (Ste.
Anne's Society, parish events) and by the Gabriel Richard Historical
Society.
In the neighborhood,
Phase 11 of house building has begun. Eleven new homes are
beginning to take shape. (Eleven were built in Phase 1.) Also,
work has started to prepare the ground for a 65 unit senior citizen
complex one block from the church. In addition, the Bagley
Housing Association is helping to rehabilitate 25 older homes in the
neighborhood. Things are looking good.
We are making plans to
restore the outer skin of the church, its interior lighting and a
new sound system. And we are planning on a total renovation of
the parish social hall and the building of an outdoor shrine to Ste.
Anne.
We are working with
neighborhood groups to train our youth for work and find them good
jobs. This is done with the G.R.A.C.E. Program and Alex
Montaner under the parent organization of the Detroit Hispanic
Development Corporation.
There has been great
cooperation among many groups in the city and suburbs to bring new
life to Ste. Anne's and Southwest Detroit. My thanks go out to
all who have helped
us. |
